Today’s wedding comes to us from one of our favourite wedding photographers in Montreal, Steve Gerrard.
Catherine & Darren’s stylish yet quirky wedding at Walcott Hall is so full of the couple’s personality and is one of those weddings that you wish you’d been invited to!
We caught up with this great couple to find out more about their amazing day….
What Catherine loves most about Darren..
He’s the funniest, sexiest, best friend I’ve ever had. He inspires me and makes me a better woman. I couldn’t live without him.
What Darren loves most about Catherine…
She’s beautiful, fun and ambitious. She makes me laugh more than anyone I know. There’s no-one else I’d rather spend my day with than her. She’s my sexy best friend!
How did the proposal happen?
Darren proposed to me on NYE on a private beach in Mexico on one knee as the sunset. Pretty perfect!
How did you choose the wedding venue?
I reasearched for months on the internet to try and find a quirky, bright, bold and old venue. Walcot hall was the only venue I actually viewed, I knew it was the one for us.
The best moment of the day…
Walking down the aisle to Darren and hearing each other’s vows got the first time.
The story of the dress…
The dress I chose was completely out of my comfort zone, I normally wear figure hugging dresses but I fell in love with this dress and thought where else will I be able to wear a dress as huge as this?! Plus my mother and mother-in-law cried when I tried it on in the shop. They were speechless…. that’s never happened before, so I thought it must be The One 🙂
Why did you choose your photographer?
Our photographer was the first thing we booked. Again I’d done A LOT of research online and found Steve. I just knew Steve was the right photographer for us… Fun, laid back and he has a great perspective on things. Steve’s turned out to be a crucial part of our wedding not just as a photographer but as our friend.
What personal touches did you include in your wedding?
We wrote our own vows. My uncle an aunty are landscape gardeners and grew the flowers for the venue from seed the year before. One of Darren’s best friend, as a wedding gift, designed all our stationary. I took secret singing lesson and sang and recorded the song I walked down the aisle, a surprise for Darren on the day. Our signature drink that we are known for is tequila so we got everyone minaiture tequila bottles as favours to be drank after the speeches… That’s when the party really started!!!
What happened that wasn’t planned?
The wedding venue is very laid back, which we loved. I was 45 minutes late for the ceremony and out of nowhere the venue owners pet dog ran down the aisle to Darren. Everyone was reduced to tears of laughter as someone shouted ‘here she is’ and it took the spotlight off my lateness!
What advice would you give couples planning their own weddings?
We had a spreadsheet of the running order of the day in 30min slots. I gave the schedule to all involved, caterers, photographers, band, Best man, maid of honour etc and it helped everyone know what was meant to be happening and when. Darren and I were really laid back about everything else. We didn’t argue leading up to the wedding and we were really chilled through the whole weekend. We were surrounded by everyone we care about, drinking eating and laughing. It was the best weekend of our lives for sure.
