Bridal Soup spoke to Tamsin from Studio Seed about their beautiful designs and wedding stationery service.

Studio Seed is a luxury stationery and design studio. We create beautifully charming wedding stationery and design-led greetings cards and art prints. We also offer a bespoke design service which includes branding and identity design, surface pattern, illustration and packaging design. At Studio Seed we use our extensive experience in the design industry to provide beautifully designed stationery which is accessible to everyone!

I worked for many years as an in-house greetings card designer for Marks & Spencer, and after a brief stint designing beauty packaging for Next I decided to go freelance and set up my own business. I wanted to use my experience and creativity to create beautiful, luxury stationery. I chose to specialise in Wedding Stationery and Greetings cards because I’m quite honestly a complete paper geek! I love sending cards and I think there’s something special in receiving something beautiful in the mail.

Clients find me in a variety of ways – a lot find me on the internet or from referrals / word of mouth from others in the wedding industry such as florists or photographers. Wedding Fairs are my favourite way to meet potential clients as I love chatting to people about what they want, it means I get a really good picture of their personalities and stationery needs. My next wedding fair will be the Vintage Chic Wedding Fair in Birmingham in October.

I usually recommend couples come to me at least 3-4 months before they want to send out their invitations. I can sometimes accommodate rush orders though, I will always try to fit you in if possible! I have two wedding stationery ranges, the Bespoke service takes a little longer as we create something special from scratch. The ‘Off the Peg’ ranges are a growing collection of customisable (and gorgeous!) designs which take slightly less time and are more affordable.

I’ve been going a few years now and after every wedding I take on I ALWAYS learn something new! I love working with such a variety of different couples, tastes, personalities and styles – it’s good for my people skills! I think the company has found its feet in the sense that I am now positioned as a luxury stationery brand and I have a much clearer direction for the business for the next few years – it’s very exciting. I like to think I am an approachable person and use my experience to put my clients at ease and make sure I explain the process to them and don’t overload them with printing jargon!

The beauty of my job is that I can work with anyone almost anywhere. I have done consultations ranging from in people’s homes to Skype calls in Australia! A large percentage of my consultations and subsequent development is done through email and phone calls – I’m good at extracting the right information out of my clients so they get their perfect stationery. Clients in the local area are always welcome to pop in to the studio for a chat (cupcakes optional!)

My most popular ‘Off the Peg’ range is the Hetty collection – I think the vintage look is still really strong and people can’t seem to get enough of bunting! The stationery collection I designed using the Bespoke service for Matt & Sarah which was a vintage-inspired birdcage design is really popular and I get a lot of requests for that. It’s personally my favourite design so I’m secretly pleased people like it! I LOVE working to a bespoke brief – I really enjoy the pressure and challenge of making something perfect for a couple from scratch. It’s lovely to see (or hear or read!) people’s positive reactions when they receive their stationery and it makes me genuinely happy that I can be a part of their special day.

I also have a range of beautiful, design-led greetings cards which I sell online in my own shop and also in various independent retailers in the UK. My newest range, ‘Fly Away’, is proving very popular and features birds and florals in my signature feminine style. I create personalised papercut artwork and art prints which are available on request. Studio Seed also offers a custom design service which ranges from branding and identity design, to surface pattern, illustration and even packaging design and I still regularly freelance for some major high street retailers including Marks & Spencer and Next – I find this keeps me in the ‘commercial’ loop and up to date with the latest trends and looks – something that keeps me ahead of the competition!

I did have a go (tongue in cheek!) at William and Kate’s wedding stationery which you can see on my website. In reality though, I recently did the stationery for a very glamorous wedding in Paris – the ceremony was held at the very prestigious Four Seasons Hotel in the centre of Paris and the reception was on an exclusive Yacht which sailed its guests down the River Seine! I created beautiful stationery including little favour boxes and tags, Order of Service booklets and all sorts of other little finishing touches – it was great fun and the couple I worked with were just amazing. I cried after I delivered the stationery to them as I was so overwhelmed at their reaction!

My dream wedding client would of course be me! (Hint hint, boyfriend!)
