Today’s wedding is a very classic, elegant affair photographed perfectly by Sussex wedding photographer, Mona Ali at Artomedes Photography.

Jessica & Anthony were married at Christ Church in Spitalfields before heading to the beautiful Bethnal Green Town Hall Hotel for their reception. Jess looked amazing in her dress from Essense Of Australia and we asked her to tell us more about the couple’s story…

1.What Jessica loves most about Anthony…
I love his razor sharp sense of humour and refusal to conform to society’s norms of behaviour.

2.What Anthony loves most about Jessica…
I love her legendary drinking ability – she even sometimes makes it onto a second glass of wine.

3.How did the proposal happen?
On holiday in Bali. We went for a special dinner in a beautiful restaurant in Ubud – Anthony waited until the end of a long seven course meal before proposing, which was not good for digestion!

4.How did you choose the wedding venue?
We both love and live in East London so we knew we wanted a local venue, which would allow us to create a wedding reflective of us. We both knew of Christ Church at the corner of Spitalfields Market as a stunning Hawksmoor church but had no idea they could hold wedding parties until we researched local possibilities- it was a perfect space for us. We loved the beautifully restored council chamber in the old Bethnal Green Town Hall, and Jessica’s dad worked in the building when it was a functioning town hall in the 1980s so that was a great connection.

5.The best moment of the day…
There wasn’t a particular moment – we felt the whole day was just about all our family and friends getting involved and celebrating with us, which after all the planning and preparing is just exactly what we wanted.

6.The story of the dress…
The dress I chose was the first I tried on – I loved it and it felt perfect, but felt I couldn’t buy it immediately. I tried a few more in other shops but none compared.

7.Why did you choose your photographer?
Jessica knew Mona through a colleague and she had photographed some work-related events. She was great to work with and her photos of conferences gave them style- so when we started planning our wedding she was the first supplier we confirmed.

8.What personal touches did you include in your wedding?
We wanted the day to incorporate lots of our favourite things so our personal touches reflected that- our tables were named after East London streets that meant something to us and Anthony’s sister took photos of them for the tables. Some of our favourite Broadway Market stalls did the catering and the beer came from a local brewery. Particularly talented friends were roped in to help create special touches – Jessica’s brother made the wedding cake, a “browntain” (brownie mountain), a friend designed the fab London street sign sign stationary and another drew the fingerprint tree.

9.What happened that wasn’t planned?
We didn’t stick to our timings – late to sit down to dinner and the speeches took longer than we’d factored in. It is hard to keep to schedule when you are having fun…

10.What advice would you give couples planning their own weddings?
Make it your own! So much can be prescribed and formulaic about weddings, have fun putting your stamp on your celebrations. Keep things in perspective and don’t lose sight of the most important thing about your wedding- your marriage!
