Suzi McLaughlin makes beautiful paper flowers and stationery for weddings, events and display. Bridal Soup caught up with her to find out everything there is to know about her company, Suzi Mclaughlin Designs.

Paper wedding bouquets, hairpieces, favors and stationery are laser cut then constructed by hand in our studio in rural Warwickshire. Clients include ELLE Magazine, The Royal Horticultural Society and Harvey Nicholls Knightsbridge.

During the last year of my Textile Design degree I began experimenting with laser cutting paper and fabrics. I have always loved flowers and enjoyed working with paper, I love how versatile it is – almost anything can be created from a flat sheet of paper. I decided I wanted to make a paper garden, which I went on to exhibit for my degree show. After graduating I went on to create displays for retail and I was commissioned by The Royal Horticultural Society to make an entire garden out of paper for 2011 Gardeners World Live Show at the NEC, pictures of the making of the garden can be seen on my blog.

Most of my clients find me through wedding fairs, trade shows, my website/blog or through word of mouth. My paper blooms are now available for weddings and unlike fresh flowers our bouquets will last forever and can be handed down to future generations. The size of the order will determine how long it takes us to create it. Single items are ready within a few weeks, we advise at least 8 weeks for larger orders however we will always try our best to accommodate our customers. All of our items are made to order and can be purchased through our Etsy shop. We also offer a bespoke service to our brides starting off with a consultation over tea and cake!

After graduation in 2010 I began working mainly on commissions for companies, where as now I hope to combine that with selling wedding stationery and flowers directly to the public. I’m now focusing on weddings and have been lucky enough to have some of my new wedding collection featured in the July/August issue of You and Your Wedding Magazine and have an exciting collaboration with A Most Curious Wedding Fair coming up later this year!

We are happy to deal with clients from the UK and overseas, so far our clients have been UK based some going abroad to get married and our paper blooms are perfect to take with you! The most popular items have been our laser cut pastel paper bouquet and head garland available in the Etsy store. Personally, I really love our paper flower brooches. They look great on a jacket, I never go out with out one on!

Along side displays for retail and weddings we also create mini paper gardens in box frames/cases as well as laser cut butterflies in cases; these make fantastic wedding gifts. We offer paper flower making workshops which make a great crafty hen do or birthday party; we hold them locally or they can be arranged at a venue of your choice and prices start from £10 per person. In the future we would like to expand our product range including new laser cut stationery and personalized paper cuts as well as single stem flowers and bouquets for sale on our new website including an online paper florist.
