Planning a rock ‘n’ roll wedding? Well, Bridal Soup has some exciting stationery inspiration for you from VANN-THOMAS DESIGN. Here Jane tells us all about her original creations.

VANN-THOMAS design is primarily a wedding invitation design service which specialises in fabric and photographic printing as well as the traditional printing techniques. The designs are bright and a little bit edgy and can be sewn, folded and rolled as well as having extras like diamantes, ribbons etc. I also create some really fun wedding favours like fridge magnets, coasters, jigsaws and bookmarks to complement them.

I started by making invites for friends and family and I love hearing about how couples met and the whole story behind the wedding. My background in art and fashion graphics makes the designs a little bit different and they have been described as ‘quirky’ amongst many other things!

As it’s a relatively new company most clients so far have been word of mouth but I have done a few wedding shows which have attracted lots of interest and are fun to do and a good way to meet lots of people.

I like to give at least 6 – 8 weeks lead time for clients so we can together have time to create something tailor made for them. It also depends on if the couple want an existing design or a completely new design and of course how many and what type of item they want creating.

VANN-THOMAS design is still in its infancy as I run it alongside a fashion graphics position, I think they both complement each other though, and cross over in all aspects of trend ideas and production. It’s gone from being a hobby to something a lot more serious and permanent. I am continually learning things with every order and am enjoying it so much!

Thanks to the internet and the nature of my work I can deal with UK or overseas clients. I speak to the client on the telephone, via email if necessary or if they are local I like to meet face to face. It’s always an exciting process. Personally, I love the all singing all dancing fabric invites covered in studs and sewn which are then rolled up-they are something for the guests to keep and quite often they are framed which is alwaysnice to hear. Wedding anniversaries never get forgotten either!!

I create placemats which can be personalised with the couple on and I incorporate the wedding theme, these always look cool on the tables. Also I can create/print hen or stag party tees with a difference, they can include the wedding theme or fashion-inspired and they are quite understated, which can be refreshing change. One-off tees can also be created to give as a gift or to the bride and groom in a tasteful Mr & Mrs style.

I’ve not had a celebrity client YET! I did get a television presenter enquire at a wedding show though, so you never know! Watch this space. I once had a request to print a poem on fabric written by a wife to her husband of 25 years, it told him he was to be whisked off for the weekend. She delivered it herself over a romantic meal which sounded absolutely lovely!

In the future I would like to develop VANN-THOMAS design further by concentrating solely on the wedding aspect and making my existing design range bigger as well as continuing with the bespoke work. I love what I do and hope I continue to offer couples something they want which is a little bit different and unusual.

Many thanks to Jane at Vann-Thomas, Bridal Soup is loving your work!
